Spearhead’s new breed of world beaters
Leading UK rotary mowing manufacturer Spearhead has launched a new range of world
beating machines. That’s the bold claim following the arrival of the state-of-the-art
STARCUT rotary line-up which represents by far the biggest single investment in
product development in the company’s history.
The sleek-looking British mulchers are the culmination of several years’ work and
the first product range to emerge from Speahead’s extended design and testing facility
at Evesham. While designed in the UK, the new machines have also undergone an extensive
two-year programme of testing and evaluation particularly in crop stubble applications
throughout continental Europe.
“There’s no doubt we’ve created a new approach to rotary mulching technology which
has the capability to transform agricultural thinking in the management and implementation
of arable farming and vegetation control,” explains the company’s Commercial Manager,
Graham Jones.
“We believe the STARCUT range is a world beater and takes rotary mulching technology
to a higher level than ever before. The new mulchers are the result of the biggest
investment in engineering resource and budget ever allocated to a project of this
kind and we’ve never been more excited or confident as a company about any other
product launch,” he adds.
The new STARCUT range, aimed at the top end of the large contract and agricultural
mulching markets, incorporates a number of new design features which challenge current
rotary mulching methods. The three new premium models – the 300, 500 and 730 – are
all high specification machines designed specifically to fall in line with the latest
track farming systems particularly relevant for the large UK and continental markets.
Additional applications for the new range include maize and cereal stubble
mulching; pasture and set-a-side maintenance; scrubland clearance; and vegetation
management of large open areas such as airports, racecourses, and national parks.
In addition, they are ideal for orchards, vineyards, cotton fields, commercial grass
seed
production and organic farms.
One of the biggest breakthroughs, according to Jones, is the introduction of the
manufacturer’s unique new STARCUT blade technology and increased cutting width which
boosts output by up to 18%. The new cutting system also delivers a far more effective
cutting angle for improved mulching.
Research undertaken at Dresden University indicates that the introduction of Spearhead’s
new cutting system also reduces the tractor’s horsepower requirement by as much
as 20% resulting in substantial fuel savings.
The shape of the three machines, which come in 3, 5 and 7.3 metre cutting widths,
has similarly been overhauled with a stylish new look forming a characteristic delta
shape. This serves a practical purpose in the collection and distribution of mulched
vegetation creating a far more even distribution. A totally new streamlined exterior
also speeds up the cleaning down of the machine post operation.
Additional design features include integrated hose routing; simple fine height control;
universal hitch assembly; unique self-levelling deck design; and improved material
flow. In another key development, there is also the ability to attach additional
machinery behind the mulcher.
According to Jones, the new STARCUT machines will challenge all existing rotary
mulching and mowing technology and deliver on every front for the professional vegetation
control sectors.
“Our reputation has been built around high quality machines, but the advances in
these latest models take vegetation control to a new level in terms of performance
and without compromise on quality or durability.
“The machines set a new standard and all the testing undertaken to date suggests
that they are going to make a real impact with customers throughout the UK and across
international markets. Every design detail has been addressed and we’re absolutely
delighted with the end result and believe our customers will be equally pleased.”
Spearheads Commercial Manager also suggested that further larger additions to the
STARCUT range were already in the pipeline and would target at the American, Canadian
and Australian markets. |
