Press Release

The Spearhead TWIGA stands tall

Launched at the recent LAMMA Show, Spearhead Machinery introduced an all-new range of 3 point linkage mounted reach arm hedge and verge cutters; the fixed arm Twiga 560 with a reach of 5.6m and the Twiga 650T, on which 1.2m of telescoping arm provides a reach of up to 6.5m. Both models come with a 1.2m flail head as standard.

Designed specifically for the professional user, the Twiga incorporates a number of significant new features, foremost amongst these being a one-piece mainframe/tank assembly, hoses routed inside the arms, 150mm of forward offset on the second arm and LED road lighting for added safety.

In a first for Spearhead, the one-piece mainframe/tank assembly provides considerable strength and also incorporates the integral pallet fork loading facility. The routing of the hoses inside the arms and the head ram being concealed inside the dipper arm enhances the overall appearance of the machine, as well as providing maximum security.

Strength and reliability is improved with a new pivot pin configuration. The 50mm main pivot pins with coated bushes have been moved to the outermost point, reducing loadings and increasing durability.

As expected of a professional machine the basic specification of the Twiga is exceptionally high and includes: • Transport width of only 2.46m • Parallel Arm Geometry
  • Head rotation 230deg
  • Cushioned top link
  • Drive – 92 litres@220 bar
  • Hydraulic proportional head control with float functions
  • Hydraulic auto-reset safety break back function
  • Hydraulic power slew
For the operator there is a choice of cable controls or Electric Proportional Controls (EPC). The EPC has an all-new multi-function joystick operating through a single cable to a new control box and control valve. Functions are easily operated via a roller switch, to control the head angle and push buttons for telescopic and slew. There is also a single switch for head angle float on/off with LED indicator lamp and a dead man switch for cancelling autopilot.

Despite the high basic specification there are a number of optional extras which include the Autopilot control system, remote hydraulic roller adjustment, electric reversing kit, arm and angle float, and a high pressure gear system (92-litres @ 300 bar). A debris blower and narrow lane bracket are also available.

The Twiga range represents a new generation of professional reach arm mowers for Spearhead, with more models to be announced later in the year. The range will be marketed alongside the existing Excel range.
